All that glitters was UPBEAT at one of the industry’s biggest global get-togethers, WOMEX. Member of our platform, the worldwide music expo attracts the cream of world music professionals, an unmatched event for matchmaking. The Galician coastal city of A Coruña hosted close to 3000 delegates and 300 organizations busy playing, experiencing, adoring, dancing to, and of course buying and selling music.
UPBEAT had a marked presence at the expo with its slick stand, lovely Hangvető team and naturally, all the glitter. A separate event, ‘UPBEAT Night’ had three remarkable bands perform in front of the professional crowd: Best New Talent nominee Júlia Kozákova with athentic Roma tunes, the charming virtuosos Almir Meskovic & Daniel Lazar with Basque band Haratago closing the night. Getting to offWOMEX stage with UPBEAT support, all three bands filled the room and could impress the movers and shakers of the scene.
A private ceremony of nearly 100 participants honoured IMATERIAL of Évora, Portugal, UPBEAT’s Future Festival awardee of 2023. IMATERIAL Team received the custom made award made of recycled ocean waste, a playful expression of UPBEAT’s credentials.
At the panel entitled Music Networks for Green Europe our sustainability expert Martyna van Nieuwland represented UPBEAT and its efforts for the industry’s future.
